A New Form of Scam: Google Maps Scam

Google Maps is a mapping service offered by Google that businesses can use to present their information to the general public. However, recently, this service has become a target for scammers.

Malicious individuals targeting business listings on this free platform search for existing or new business listings on Google Maps, claiming that the services they offer are actually paid and demanding money from business owners.

A common technique used by these scammers involves sending threatening messages like, “If you don’t pay the fee, your business will be removed from the listings.” Using Google’s name to intimidate business owners, these individuals demand around 500 lira annually under the guise of updating business listings.

Scammers even imitate the envelopes that contain information helping businesses get verified on Google. However, keen eyes can immediately spot these fake envelopes. The original envelope from Google includes the phrase ‘Google My Business,’ while the scammers’ fake envelope says ‘Google Business.’

Additionally, Google sends envelopes containing ‘Verification Codes’ to assist business owners in verifying their businesses. But the fake envelopes have ‘Maps Update PIN’ written on them.

GOOGLE MAPS SERVICE IS FREE! Google Maps and Business Listing services are completely free, and Google does not charge users for these services. Therefore, it is crucial to be cautious of anyone claiming to be from Google and asking for money.
